Happy Day

Enrichment programs for our students in Kenya: field trips, ocean outings, photo sessions, and back-to-school support. We want children from the slums and remote villages to discover the world and broaden their horizons just like everyone else.

About the Project

What Is “Happy Day”

“Happy Day” is the name that best captures the variety of programs we run for our schoolchildren, all aimed at their enrichment and personal growth.

It matters to us that children living in the slums and remote villages get to explore the world and broaden their horizons just like everyone else. Many of them see a real airplane, snakes, or crocodiles for the very first time — and leave their everyday surroundings for the first time in their lives.

Our main goal is to give children their childhood back and create the best possible conditions for successful learning.

Field Trips

Introducing Children to the Big World

We regularly organize excursions to the zoo and the museum, and introduce children to fascinating professions — pilot, engineer, flight attendant — right at the local airport.

Many children see a real airplane, snakes, and crocodiles for the first time, and travel beyond their everyday surroundings for the first time in their lives. Every trip is an event they remember for a long time — one that opens up the world in a whole new way.

Seeing an airplane for the first time, holding an eagle, exploring a museum — for children from the slums, it is a true discovery of the world.

Ocean Outings

Seeing the Ocean for the First Time

During school holidays we take the children on trips to the ocean. The idea was first born after talking to their parents: it turned out that many people live their whole lives just a few miles from the coast and have never seen the ocean.

Paying two dollars for transport is an impossible expense for families here. So we cover all the costs ourselves.

How a Trip Works

Swim, Play, and Remember It Forever

When we organize the trips, we cover every expense: renting transport and buying snacks for the children. We also bring along games, so the day is full of both swimming and fun on the beach.

These moments stay in the children's memory for a lifetime — and they can't wait to do it all over again.

For many children, a day at the ocean is the brightest day of the year. And giving it costs just a few dollars.

Photo Sessions

The First Photo of Their Own

From time to time we hold photo sessions for our children. Many of them do not have a single photograph of themselves, because many families do not even own a phone.

We take Polaroid pictures so that every child can receive a photo of their very own — one that will bring them joy and memories for a lifetime.

A small Polaroid print is often the first and only photograph a child has — a treasure of their very own.

Back to School

A Uniform and School Supplies for Every Student

In Kenya, a school uniform is a mandatory requirement for attending school — and many parents simply cannot afford one. That is why every year we help our students get ready for school.

School Uniforms

You can make a child happy by giving them a brand-new school uniform. We purchase sets for boys and girls so that every student can attend school and feel confident among their peers.

150 New T-Shirts

Last time we handed out 150 brand-new T-shirts — one for every child. For many of them, it was the first completely new item they had ever owned.

School Supplies for Everyone

Along with the uniforms, we give each child a complete stationery set: a pencil case, pens, pencils, a ruler, an eraser, and a notebook — everything they need to study well.
